Making discounts a reason to shop

FESTIVE SPIRIT

Crossing a rack of designer clothing would tempt anyone to buy something for themselves. The rate tags, however, compel one to overlook and walk away. But if a discount is available on these, then one ends up buying the product of their choice, even if they don’t really need it!

Discounts available during Diwali play the role of a temptress who can entrap anyone who walks past it. Take for example, Vandana M who could not control herself from picking up a suit from Charming at DLF Saket when she saw a 40 per cent discount available on a range of selected garments. “It is only around Diwali that one gets such lucrative deals. It would be foolish if you do not buy a designer suit available at a 40 per cent discount,” she exclaims adding, “In any case I have four friends who are tying the nuptial soon.”

Many shoppers like Vandana fall into such temptations and there are also few who wait for big brands to hang their discount boards outside their showroom! “If a pair of shoes at Nine West is worth rupees six thousand otherwise then it is available for four during the time of discount. Then why not wait for Diwali and save some money,” shares Teena Mishra, a shopaholic.

Apart from the ever-favourite shoes, bags and clothing, a lot of shoppers wait until Diwali to buy a specific product. “I remember waiting for the festival to buy an Apple iPod last year because showrooms allow heavy discounts on electronic gadgets,” recollects Mansi Mayer while Vandana adds, “I too bought an LG LCD television and a Voltas AC since I was getting the choice to pay their price in instalments. It doesn’t pinch if you have to pay about 26 thousand in nine instalments.”

Both of them have also shopped home decor products. While Vandana has bought upholstery, Mansi has invested in four sets of bedsheets at fifty per cent discount from Lajpat Nagar Market. In fact, home decor products are a hot option among buyers who eagerly wait for the festival to indulge in such shopping.

“When else does one get a chance to redo the house interiors and that too at an affordable price,” she asks, making a valid point!
