A taunt reportedly prompted re-opening of a case of alleged killing of a minor and exhumation of his body, at Karodhana village in Agra district.

Reports said an eight-year-old child was crushed to death by a tractor on Saturday. The child, who was sitting on the tractor, had fallen and came under the wheels when the tractor came to a sudden halt after driver applied the brakes.

A panchayat was convened after the tractor driver Bhupendra Yadav claimed that he was not responsible for the death.

After deliberations, the panchayat members asked Bhupendra to pay Rs 20,000 as compensation to the child’s family and in turn they would not report to the police.

The compensation was paid and the matter was settled. The child’s body was buried.

On Wednesday, a friend of Bhupendra, who was also present at the panchayat, made some comment on a member of the victim’s family, while he was enjoying food at a fast food joint near the village.

“You now have the money to enjoy,” Bhupendra’s friend reportedly remarked.

The taunt triggered resentment in the family of the deceased and they  reported the matter to police. They alleged that they had been coerced into making compromise, police sources said.

The cops exhumed the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered against Bhupendra Yadav and security personnel had been deployed in the village to maintain peace.
