The Shambhavi School of Dance is hosting Dance Jathre, a dance fair, on November 16 and 17 at Freedom Park.

The dance fair is a ceremonial affair, where one meets the cultural side of oneself. A brainchild of danseuse Vyjayanthi Kashi, it disseminates various kinds of dance forms catering to individuals with any or no proficiency level. The two-day event will have a slew of programmes like group dance competitions (both senior and junior category), solo dance competitions and performances like Karnataka folk dance, kuchipudi duet and bharatanatayam.

Dance Jathre will aim to reach out to large number of people, including those who don’t know how to dance. The organisers have planned dance workshops for those who want to start afresh or hone their current skills. On November 16, there will be several workshops on topics like odissi dance, healing and dealing with your body and expanding creative boundaries through classical dance by odissi choreographer Guru Bichitrananda Swain, Dr Krishana and Savita Sastry.

The post-lunch session will include performances like kuchipudi duet by Vyjayanthi Kashi and Prateeksha Kashi and bharatanatyam by Punyah Dance Company. The event promises to hold something for people of all ages. To keep the kids engaged, there will be painting and craft-making workshops too. On November 17, the fair will continue with competitions, workshops on yoga in bharatanatyam and yakshagana, and conclude with prize distribution and performances by prize winners.

The other attractions of Dance Jathre include photography exhibition by Prashanth Arora, screening of a movie on Vedantam Satyanarayana Sharma, stall exhibition, among others. The two-day event will start at 10 am and conclude at 9 pm on both the days.
