Are you one of those people who likes to keep up with trends or are you just tired of your existing kitchen and want a new look for 2014? In either case, you might want to familiarise yourself with the Kitchen Décor trends for 2014.

Kitchens are the central area of a home. This is where meals are prepared, after-dinner conversations are held and often-times, children are indoctrinated into the secret of traditional family recipes. It is an important part of the house which needs much loving care.

Let us look at how we can upgrade this important space. Most of us own tablets or smartphones and other touch-interface gadgets. Needless to say, these are entering the kitchen too.

We all pull up recipes on these devices and head for the kitchen. Thus, it is only natural that these gadgets are incorporated into the kitchen itself.

Electrolux has been at it for a few years with their “screenfridges” but come 2014, touch screens would be more prominent rather than just in one section. The same goes for other glass-front appliances such as ovens and microwaves.

LED Lighting is 80 per cent energy efficient and has up to 1,00,000 hours of life expectancy; thus LED lighting is set to become a brighter star in the kitchen. Whether it’s to be positioned along the lines of countertops or inside the fridge for better visibility, we’re going to see more of it next year.

In fact, the LED kitchen craze has already begun. We’re seeing it in light faucets, which turn on the light of your choice when the faucet is turned, and in dim lights switched on when the kitchen isn’t in use.

Do your appliances clutter up the countertop? Well, you can now say goodbye to clutter as more ‘tucked away’ appliances will be introduced. Integrated refrigerators will become increasingly popular. More space and compartments will be built in order for you to keep those small appliances you don’t always need. This means having a kitchen that’s modern, and far cleaner and slicker.

Perhaps the biggest change that is foreseen is in countertops. Porcelain countertops are scratch-resistant, can withstand high temperatures and is stain resistant. This means you can say sayonara to rectangle cooktops and say hello to induction cooking installed right into the countertop.

TPB Barcelona is one of the trendsetters of this mind-blowing innovation and there’ll be more to come. Houses with free-flowing rooms have become more in demand. It’s now all about your guests watching you prepare brunch as they lounge in the living room.

With this, comes the trend of unified floors. Kitchens will no longer feel like a working area but more of an extension, a portion of a larger environment at home. Thus, whatever you use for floors in the living or dining area is what you may opt for the kitchen too.

There you have it, the kitchen decor trends for 2014 — slick, innovative and indeed promising.
