Shankaranand laid to rest

Mortal remains of veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister B Shankaranand were laid to rest beside the samadhis of his parents and wife at Kanagala village in Belgaum district, on Saturday, with State honours.

The body of Shankaranand, who breathed his last at KLES Dr Prabhakar Kore Hospital here in the early hours of Friday was brought to his native village in the evening. People from the surrounding villages paid their homage until late in the night.

The final rites were performed around 12 noon on Saturday. Union Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa and State Horticulture Minister Umesh Katti paid their last respect. Several seers and leaders including Karnataka State Legislative Council Chairman Veeranna Mattikatti, KPCC President R V Deshpande paid their last respect.
