Interpol had issued a Red Corner Notice against the two men for suspected involvement in the terror attacks on Mumbai in November last year.
The two men, who ran a money transfer agency, were picked up in an early morning raid from Brescia, following leads from Indian and US investigators. The duo, identified by the police as Mohammad Yaqub Janjua, 60, and Aamer Yaqub Janjua, 31, have been accused of aiding and abetting international terrorism as well as illegal financial activity.

They transferred $229 to activate an Internet phone account that was used by the attackers and their accomplices, on November 25, 2008, a day before the attacks, said Stefano Fonzi, the head of anti-terror police in Brescia. The funds that enabled the terrorists to be in touch with their handlers in Pakistan were transferred under the identity of another Pakistani man who had never been to Italy and was not involved in the attacks. The two managed a money transfer agency where it is reported to be a common practice to transfer funds using false identities.
Italian police started their investigation after being alerted by Indian authorities and the FBI that funds had been transferred from Italy, Fonzi said.

Two others connected with the long-standing money transfer agency in Brescia were also arrested for other illegal activity. Police are looking for a fifth man.
The order to open the account that allowed the attackers to communicate during the massacre came from two men in Pakistan, Fonzi said.
He said Italian authorities had shared details of their identities to Pakistani officials.

Highly placed official sources in New Delhi said that the two were on the list of suspects in the Mumbai attack and the Red Corner Notice was issued after last year’s strikes.

Janjua and Aamer Yaqub had fled to Pakistan after the attacks but returned recently. They were untraceable since November last year and were declared absconders, the sources said.
