A deeper look at Germany

Germany will be participating in the ‘18th International Film Festival of Kerala 2013’ (IFFK) to be held from December 6 to 13 at Thiruvananthapuram.

This was announced by the Goethe Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan here. The German presence includes top-calibre film-maker and video-artist Harun Farocki, curator and writer Antje Ehmann, the artist-duo Haubitz and Zoche with a fascinating photo exhibition on vanishing theatres, and a special package on ‘Indian Expressionism’, curated by Meenakshi Shedde.

Farocki will not only present several of his films, but together with Ehmann, conduct a one-day workshop on documentary filmmaking — ‘Fiction or Reality’ — for film-makers, film students and video-artists on December 9, from 11.30 am to 4 pm. They will also present their highly-acclaimed video installation ‘Labour in a Single Shot’ at Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan from December 6 to 14.

Also, ‘South Indian Movie Theatres’, an exhibition by Sabine Haubitz and Stefanie Zoche, will be inaugurated on December 7, 10 am at Kanakakunnu Palace, Thiruvananthapuram. It will be on display from December 8 to 13.The artist-duo Sabine Haubitz and Stefanie Zoche work with photography, video and installation.

 ‘Indian Expressionism’, curated by Meenakshi Shedde, will showcase the fascinating Indo-German cinematic relations over much of the last century. It will be held from December 6 to 13 at the IFFK, Thiruvananthapuram. For details, call 25205305/6 or visit goethe.de/bangalore
