Martyrs' kin honoured at Flag Day fete

It was a day full of pride for three women, Savithramma, Iravva and Shrikala, on the eve of Armed Forces Flag Day on Friday. 

For, everyone present at Raj Bhavan to mark the occasion remembered the supreme sacrifice for the cause of the nation made by the three bravehearts constable Satish, son of Savithramma, constable Kuber Gowda, son of Iravva, and Havildar Girish, husband of Shrikala.

The three women were handed over grants by the officials of Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement on the occasion. Department of Sainik Welfare and Resettlement Director P B Shetty said the department had already trained about 1,000 male candidates under a pre-recruitment training drive across the State and now the same is being planned for female candidates as well.

Earlier, KSRTC, Excise Department, Department of Technical Education were applauded and mementos were presented to representatives for collecting the highest funds, respectively, towards Armed Forces Flag Day Collection 2012.

KSRTC, with the highest collection of Rs 16,50,230, bagged the Flag Day Rolling Shield. Overall, for 2012, Rs 1.62 crore was collected from various agencies across the State towards the fund.
