82 Sri Lankan fishermen held

In the past week, the Coast Guard has arrested more than 80 Sri Lankan fishermen on charges of entering Indian territorial waters.

As many as 26 fishermen, belonging to the neighbouring island nation, were held over the past three days for fishing in Indian waters, taking the total number of Sri Lankan nationals arrested in the last one week to 82.

According to a release from the Defence Ministry on Friday, in a sea-air coordinated operation, Indian Coast Guard Ships Vishwast and Rajshree arrested the 26 fishermen in two batches from two locations. One batch off Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and another off the Puducherry coast on December 4 and 5.
