Various colleges took part in the international conference on ‘Outcome Based Competitive Strategies: Issues and Challenges’, organised by the students of the MBA department of the PESIT west campus.

Baisakhi, one of the organisers, informed that they got a great response from colleges across India. “Apart from the students of PESIT and several colleges in Bangalore, we
had participants from NIT-Suratkal, Indian Institute of Plantation and Management, DRDO and even students from Pune and Mumbai,” she said.

The participants did a detailed study on the various aspects of student behaviour before coming to a conclusion. Shreya Tholpadi, Shivika
Thapar and Radhakrishna P, the students of PESIT south campus who presented the paper along with their teacher Krupalini N Swamy, informed that they took almost six months to work on it.

Shivika Thapar, one of the authors of the paper, said that they worked on how the entire system could be improved if constant feedback was given about the faculty. “We have seen that students often give their feedback in vain. We decided to come up with an algorithm which says that a student’s attendance and intelligence should be a parameter to judge a particular faculty.

We also came up with a set of questionnaires. Our theory suggests that not all students should be allowed to judge a teacher. For instance, a student who does not attend classes does not know the teacher that well,” she explained. Different papers were presented in the conference and the organisers got a great response from the student community from all over the country.

Shreya Tholpadi, a participant at the conference, said that they had started preparing for the conference six months ago but could only finish it recently. “We quoted examples of different institutions and their model of assessing teachers. In fact, we also worked with a psychologist to know what goes on in the mind of a student. Though we did not visit universities and colleges to know the process adopted by them, we did a detailed study of how the entire thing works and what methodology is adopted for the same,” she noted.

It was a great platform for students to present their papers as participants from
all over the country and various fields took part in the conference. It also
provided the students a lot of exposure and an opportunity to interact with participants from other cities.
