The Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) here has come out with ‘Designer Green Milk’, a nutrient-rich product that may be useful in addressing malnourishment among children.
The milk was produced after 16 months of constant research by an eight-member team of food scientists, Rajasekharan, the CFTRI director, told reporters here on Tuesday. The new product will be launched on Wednesday as a prelude to the seventh International Food Convention at Kalamandira here at 3 pm.
Vegetables used
The milk was produced using commonly available vegetables and leaves like moringa (Nugge Soppu), a soluble protein, leafy oils (Kheere and Goni leaves), chicory (CH20 inulin), mushroom (Vitamin D2) and chia/ocimum (Tulsi seed) emulsifier.
The use of greens in its production makes it a herbal milk and one among the many versions that will hit the market later, exclusively for children, middle-aged people, senior citizens and sportspersons. The current version is 1.4 (named after the time it took — 1.4 years), according to Rajasekharan. He said that a CFTRI proposal to launch its own company to sell the milk was being processed.
