Special mass, carol singing mark Christmas celebrations

Brightly lit paper stars, Christmas trees, Santa Claus , tinsel balls, and all sort of decorative items were put out at churches and homes, marking the Christmas celebrations in Kodagu district.

Preparations for the setting up of Cribs, installing giant-size Santa Claus models , illuminating buildings with lights and stars marked the beginning of Christmas festivities in the district.

St Michael Church in Madikeri was lit with lights and, stars.

Church Parish Priest Rev Fr Charles Joseph said that St Michael Church has a history of 200 years and as many as 550 families come under the purview of the church.

“The setting up of Christmas cribs have started in every house for the last 15 days,” he said.

Fr Charles further said that a day-long mass will be held in the Church.  Rev Fr Charles Joseph said Carol singing competition will be conducted for children on December 25, at 5 pm.

Special dishes and new dresses will be distributed among poor, by the Church.
A crib making competition will be held for the first time for 550 families coming under the jurisdiction of the church. The winners will get special prizes.

Shanti Church and other churches in the city limits are also set for the celebrations.
Devotional songs will be sung as a part of Christmas celebrations at the  first Church in Kodagu— St Ann’s Church in Virajpet. 

The mass will be held at 9 am on Wednesday.
