Last Updated 24 December 2013, 22:31 IST

An attempt to rob an Indian Bank ATM was made in Malleswaram in the early hours of Tuesday. A private security guard posted at the kiosk has gone missing, police said.

Miscreants tried to break open the machine with an iron road. They suspected the involvement of the security guard.

A senior officer at Malleswaram police station said the ATM kiosk was located on the premises of Indian Bank branch on Link Road. Policemen on night patrol had visited the kiosk at about 12.30 am and a security guard was present. But the guard who came to work on Tuesday morning found the ATM damaged.

It also came to light that the guard on night duty was missing. He lodged a complaint with the local police.

The officer said they examined the footage from CCTV camera installed inside the kiosk. It showed that miscreants struck around 2 am. Since they had covered the CCTV camera with newspaper their faces haven’t been captured clearly. But the fact that the security guard is missing has led the police to suspect his involvement. According to police, the guard was posted four days ago. Malleswaram police have registered a case .

“We have adequate information about the prime suspect. A special team has left for his hometown,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Sandeep Patil said. The bank has installed a CCTV camera outside the ATM kiosk. However, there was no burglar alarm in place.

The security at ATM kiosks across the City was beefed up following the recent attack on a woman who was drawing money from a Corporation Bank ATM.
