Hiring up 3.3 per cent in Bangalore in Oct

Prominent industries in Bangalore include IT and ITeS. ITES and BPO industry saw an increase in hiring activity in October ‘09 by 4.4 per cent. Both IT-Software and Hardware saw a drop in hiring activity by 2 per cent and 4.4 per cent respectively in October ‘09 as compared to September ‘09.

“We are now in the recovery stage as far as hiring is concerned and this is indicated by the increase in hiring activity by 3.3 per cent in Bangalore. At the National level, the October figures are down on September due to seasonality and holidays due to festivals,” said Info Edge Chief Financial Officer, Ambarish Raghuvanshi.

Out of the top 8 cities, 5 cities saw an upward trend in hiring, while Mumbai, saw a dip.  Hiring activity went down across all experience levels. However, the 3-month average in the 0-3 yrs experience range showed a positive trend.

City-wise analysis:

Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Kolkata and Hyderabad saw an uptrend in hiring activity by 7.05 per cent, 3.33 per cent, 2 per cent, 1.43 per cent and 6.65 per cent respectively in October’09 as compared to September’09.  Mumbai and Pune saw a decline in recruitment activity, bringing down the index by 9 per cent and 2.38 per cent respectively in October ‘09 as compared to September’09.

Industry analysis:

ITES/BPO, Oil and Gas, Banking and Healthcare saw an increase in hiring
As compared to September’09, ITES/BPO industry saw an increase in hiring activity in October ‘09 by 4.4 per cent. Banking and Healthcare also witnessed an increase in the hiring activity by 4.1per cent and 12.43 per cent respectively in October ‘09 as compared to September ‘09.

Hiring activity in the Oil and Gas sector bounced back in October ‘09 with an increase by 4.8 per cent over September ‘09.

Telecom witnessed reduced hiring activity by 15 per cent in October ‘09 as compared to September ‘09. Auto/Auto Ancillary and Pharma/Biotech sectors saw decreased hiring activity in October ‘09 by 8.9 per cent and 7.5 per cent respectively. Both IT-Software and Hardware saw a slight drop in hiring activity by 2 per cent and 4.4 per cent respectively in October ‘09 as compared to September ‘09.

Functional area 

ITES / BPO and Pharma /Healthcare  professionals saw an increase in demand
The demand for ITES / BPO and Pharma /Healthcare professionals saw an uptrend. While the demand for professionals in the Pharma/Biotech/Healthcare sector grew by 13 per cent, the demand for ITES/BPO professionals grew by 4 per cent in October ‘09 as compared to September ‘09. The demand for Sales and Business Development professionals bounced back by 1.3 per cent in October ‘09 after showing a negative growth in the hiring activity by 3.6 per cent in September ‘09. 

On Total Jobs, the index moved down by 5.1 per cent from 785 in September ‘09 to 745 in October ‘09. According to the Total Jobs Index, the index peaked in Sep’08 at 1004 and bottomed in Dec’08 at 739.

Methodology

The index has been calculated based on job listings added to the site month on month. July 2008 has been taken as the base month with a score of 1000 and each subsequent monthly index is compared with data for July 2008.

Jobs have been categorised by location, functional area, industry, experience bucket. The report shows hiring trends across industry sectors, geography and functional areas. More than 34000 clients used Naukri.com in 2008-2009, leading to high reliability of data.
