Within a week of a 13-year-old girl being raped in a moving taxi on Park Street, a speech and hearing impaired woman was raped by a taxi driver at Kolkata railway station in north Kolkata on Thursday.

The driver, Kishore Jadav, was caught soon after and sent to police custody for seven days by a city court.

The police got to know of the rape after a man called up nearby Ultadanga police station  around 11.30 pm on Thursday, to complain of a man being caught while raping a woman at the station premises.  “We arrested Jadav and sent the woman for medical examination.

Since the woman is differently-abled, we have sought permission from the court to use someone who can interpret what she’s trying to say and to communicate with her," said Special Deputy Commissioner Sumanjit Roy of Kolkata Police’s detective department.

According to some vendors and others involved with various vocations in the station premises, on Thursday night, they heard a cry from behind a bush next to the taxi stand at Kolkata station.

When they rushed to the spot, they found Jadav in a compromising position on top of the woman.  The locals apprehended him and informed the police.
