Busy first day for Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had a busy first day in his office. On Saturday, he chaired a Cabinet meeting and held a series of meetings with bureaucrats and other officials.

His first decision came as a shocker for bureaucrats as he ordered to remove beacons from the vehicles and remove all security cover provided by the government.

The Cabinet also send a recommendation to the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung to summon first session of fifth Legislative Assembly in January 1, 2014. Vote of confidence will take place on January 2 and election of Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be held on January 3.

Kejriwal held a series of meetings with CEO of DJB Deboshree Mukherji, MD of IGL, transport commissioner, power secretary and commissioner of Delhi Police B S Bassi. After the meeting, Bassi said, “We have shared our visions on security of Delhi. Women security is a major issue. We will assure security to each and every women and other vulnerable section of society.”

Kejriwal also distributed portfolios for his cabinet ministers. He kept home, finance, vigilance, services, planning, power and all other departments not allocated to anyone with himself.

His close aide Manish Sisodia took charge as the minister of education, higher education, PWD, urban development, local bodies, land and building and revenue. Somnath Bharti took charge as the minister of administrative reforms, law, tourism and art and culture.

Saurabh Bhardwaj took charge as minister of food and supply, transport, environment, election and general administration. Rakhi Birla took charge as the minister of women and child, social welfare and languages.

Girish Soni got the departments of SC-ST welfare, employment, development, skill mission and labour and Satyender Jain got the departments of health, industries and gurudwara elections. Soon after taking charge, Health Minister Satyendra Jain gave a surprise visit to LNJP Hospital.

“The facilities are not up to the mark,” he told reporters outside the hospital.
