Cong won't put up with undemocratic ways, says Lovely

Last Updated 29 December 2013, 21:31 IST

The Congress has not endorsed the policies of any other party by offering outside support to AAP in Delhi and they helped in forming the government only to respect the sentiments of the people, said Arvinder Singh Lovely who took charge as Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president of on Sunday.

Without directly referring to the Aam Aadmi Party, he warned that no “undemocratic” activities would be tolerated and that the party would not compromise on the respect of the party workers at any cost and by anyone.

He warned that his party would take to the streets if the sentiments and feelings of any Congress leader or worker were hurt by the Delhi government.

Lovely also said the party would protest if the development works started by the Congress government in Delhi were slowed down.

“The party will protest strongly if there is any let-up in the all-round development works started by Congress in Delhi,” he said at a function organised to appoint him to the position.
The function was attended by senior Congress party leaders and workers at the DPCC office at Rajiv Bhawan on Sunday.

He said despite lending support to AAP, his party will play the role of the opposition for all practical purposes.

“We extended support to AAP only because the Congress respects people’s verdict. We will support the current government for any good work that they will do, but our role remains as that of an opposition party,” said Lovely.
