Man gets lifer for killing wife

A man convicted of brutally murdering his wife has been sentenced to life imprisonment on Wednesday.

Judge of Second Additional District and Sessions Court M Sridevi ordered Eshwarachari to life imprisonment for brutally hacking his wife Thayamma to death over a year ago.

According to a press release from Additional Public Prosecutor H E Chinnappa, Eshwarachari, son of Cheluvachari of Hangod in Hunsur taluk in the district had married Thayamma of the same taluk.

Residents of Madahalli earlier, they shifted to Hangod later. Eshwarachari was harassing his wife,  suspecting infidelity, besides demanding dowry and a share in her ancestral property.

Brutal

On May 12, 2012, Eshwarachari who came home drunk picked up a quarrel with Thayamma. He subsequently attacked her with a cudgel, besides strangling her with the mangalsutra and smothering with the pillow. He also banged her head against the wall causing her death.

The then Circle Police Inspector of Hunsur rural police station H S Gajendra Prasad had submitted a charge sheet to the court. The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 on the accused.
