Navy officer rapes 29-year-old with promise of wedding

An Indian Navy commander and an engineer working with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation have been arrested on charges of rape on the pretext of marriage in separate cases.

An Indian Navy commander was arrested for allegedly raping a 29-year-old woman in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar. Kunal, 39, is married and lives with family in Delhi Cantonment. He was a doctor at an army hospital. Police said the victim, a resident of south Delhi, works as a receptionist with a private firm.

“She allegedly met the accused in a birthday party,” a police officer said. Kunal befriended her and both started meeting each other. It is alleged that Kunal promised to marry her and developed a physical relation. However, recently, Kunal began ignoring her.

Later, after finding out that Kunal was married, she approached him, but he began threatening her with dire consequences if she revealed about their relation to his wife. She then filed a case of rape with Malviya Nagar police station on December 27.

“The accused has been arrested at Delhi Cantonment and sent to judicial custody,” the officer added.

DMRC engineer held

A 30-year-old engineer working with DMRC has been arrested over the allegations of a 24-year-old woman in east Delhi’s Shakarpur. Jitender lived in Delhi Metro Rail House Complex in Yamuna Bank.

Police said the victim met Jitender few years ago through a common friend. During meetings, Jitender proposed to marry her, after which, they started living together at the Yamuna Bank house.

“During the stay, Jitender developed a physical relationship with the victim and the woman even managed to convince her family for the marriage,” another police officer said.
As time progressed, the accused started avoiding her.

When the victim questioned him, he told her not to visit his house again. At this, the woman decided to file a police complaint. On Sunday, the woman approached Shakarpur police station and Jitender was arrested.
