Worm found in Rajdhani Exp food

Last Updated 05 January 2014, 20:41 IST

If you are travelling by the Rajdhani Express,  better carry home-cooked food for the journey. Prerna Priyadarshi, who was travelling on the New Delhi-Patna Rajdhani Express, learnt this the hard way.

A vegetarian by choice, the doctor, who is posted at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), was served the food on her way to the state capital. However, when she opened the food-packet, she found a dead worm in the vegetable item.

Travelling in A-1 compartment (seat No 41), the woman doctor immediately called the travelling ticket examiner (TTE), who found her complaint genuine. The TTE, in turn, called the catering manager at 7 pm, who eventually turned up at 9 pm. On hearing the doctor’s complaint, the catering manager offered her to send a fresh food packet and, in turn, asked her to refrain from lodging complaint.

But the doctor stuck to her demand and asked for the complaint register. Four hours after the incident, the book was made available to her following which  Prerna lodged the complaint at 11 pm.

The doctor rued that even two days after lodging the complaint, no action had been taken against the staff concerned.

East Central Railway  Chief Public Relations Officer Amitabh Prabhakar said that investigation had begun into her complaint. “We will take departmental action against those found guilty,” Prabhakar said.
