Police are awaiting post-mortem reports to determine whether the death of a 33-year-old home-alone woman and her 14-month-old twin daughters at Srinivasa Nagar near Hanumanthanagar here last Saturday was suicide, murder or both.

Although Harish, 33, the husband of the deceased, Asha, has been arrested on the charges of murder and dowry harassment, a senior police officer said that the case against him was “not strong as of now”. Harish and his family members, including his mother, brother and sister-in-law, were subjected to “sustained interrogation”, but nothing crucial had emerged so far. They all had been consistent in their version of the events, the officer added.

Consequently, police have not been able to determine the exact nature of the crime.  Asha and her twin daughters, Ahana and Aradhya, were found drowned in the 1,000-litre overhead water tank. While Asha’s family alleged that her husband murdered her and the children, Harish claimed that Asha committed suicide after killing the babies.

Investigators hope the post-mortem reports would be able to solve the mystery. The post-mortem was performed at the Victoria Hospital on Saturday.

‘2 held’ for murder

The Kamakshipalya police are said to have taken two persons into custody connection with the murder of another home-alone, also on Saturday at Kottigepalya. The arrests were reportedly made after a few persons were interrogated.

The DCP (West), Labhu Ram, however, denied that any suspect had been arrested.

He claimed that no progress had been made into the case yet but said he was confident that the suspects would be arrested soon. “We have not taken anybody into custody. We are still looking out for the suspects and are confident of arresting them soon,” he said.

Driver stabbed

A 23-year-old driver was stabbed by three people in Chikkasandra in Soladevanahalli police limits on Sunday afternoon.

Narayanaswamy was stabbed thrice in the abdomen by three men identified as Gajendra, Vinod and Ajay. Narayanswamy is said to have had a scuffle with the three while playing Holi last year. He was attacked as a revenge, police said.

Passersby rushed a profusely bleeding Narayanaswamy to a nearby hospital and he is said to be out of danger.
