Minor held for rape of nine-year-old girl

A 13-year-old boy, who had allegedly abducted and raped a 9-year-old girl recently in Begur, was arrested by the City police on Tuesday.

Briefing reporters, Police Commissioner Raghavendra H Auradkar said the accused confessed to abducting the girl while she was returning home and raping her after taking her to an isolated spot.

The boy has been booked under Protection of Children Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and Sections 363 (A), 376, 307 and 506 of IPC, Auradkar said. The police, he said, constituted nine teams headed by DCP (South-East) T D Pawar, and managed to get circumstantial evidence at an abandoned shed in Begur leading them to the boy.

According to school certificate, the suspect’s date of birth is June 11, 2000. A school dropout, he had parted ways with his parents, the police said.

There were CCTV cameras on Classical Layout Road from where the girl was abducted. The police verified CCTV footages which showed the girl going to the school, but not returning home. Medical and physical evidences matched with the victim’s version.
He is the only suspect and seemed to have followed the victim for a few days before raping her.

He covered her face with a piece of cloth when she was returning from school in Patel Layout, Begur, on January 4 at 12.30 pm, took her to a desolate area and raped her.
