Tie-up for better cardiac care

The M S Ramaiah Medical College and Hospitals along with Narayana Healthcare will collaborate and partner with local communities, clinics and community health workers to create better preventive cardiology strategies. 

Dr Naresh Shetty, president of M S Ramaiah Memorial Hospital told presspersons here on Wednesday, that they would tie-up with community healthcare workers who will have mobile healthcare resources for patients’ education and assistance in identifying best local community resources for follow up. 

He said, the objective of the partnerships is to develop new strategies for early identification and referral of individuals with heart problems to appropriate centres and develop personalised preventive emergency medicine education strategies for patients.

The highest risk individuals and neighbourhoods will receive more intensive healthcare education which will utilise ambulance, paramedics and health workers’ home visits, activity and weight monitoring and evaluation, assistance of  home medication.

Shetty pointed that this is important for Bangalore as it is  home to the largest number of cardiac care hospitals. Dr Arunachala Ramesh, head of Department of Emergency Medicine, MSRMC, will be the leader of the project in Bangalore.
