Last Updated 25 November 2009, 18:59 IST

Sources in the Council secretariat said Veeranna Mathikatti has conveyed to the government that one third of the seats in the Council will be going for the polls on December 18. Many members of the Council, irrespective of the party, would be either contesting for the polls or busy campaigning.

It is said that even if the government does not postpone the session, the chairman would convene a business advisory committee meeting on December 14, as per the schedule and decide to postpone the session. Council Secretary V Shreesh has already issued a notice in this regard.

The Council session is slated for December 22 while the counting will be held on December 21.

Term of the 25 members, whose seats are going for the polls on December 18, will come to an end in the first week of January. Even if some of the existing members contest for the polls and suffer defeat, they enjoy the right to attend the session till January first week.
