Ex-MLA's son kills wife, shoots self

 A former MLA's son shot dead his wife and then committed suicide at their house in Patiala today, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Balwinder Pal Singh (35), son of former Akali Dal MLA from Shutrana Gurdev Singh Sidhu, and Balwinder's wife Gurmeet Kaur (34).
Police said that the couple was going through a rough patch following which Balwinder took the extreme step.

Gurmeet, widow of Balwinder's elder brother, was remarried to him after his brother died years ago. She has two sons from her first marriage.

Patiala  SSP Hardyal Singh Mann said as per the statement of the family, the couple had an altercation on Saturday night but Sidhu pacified the couple.

The couple again had an altercation today following which Balwinder went to his father's room and took out his licensed gun.

He then came to his room and shot at his wife in the forehead from a close range and then fired at himself in the neck. Both died on the spot, police said.
