Flaws in XAT question papers

Last Updated 15 January 2014, 18:27 IST

Discrepancies in a set of question papers of the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), 2014 that was held across the country on January 5, have been reported from a centre in Bangalore.

Nikhil Baheti (XAT ID: XAT229846), who took the test at the Christ College centre, has lodged a complaint with the Xaviers Labour Relations Institute (XLRI), which conducts the test. Baheti, who lodged the complaint on the day he took the test, has stated that a big chunk of the questions were missing from the question booklet.

Out of the 83 questions that were in the booklet (series C), questions from number one to number 41 were missing. On top of this, the same questions – from 42 to 83 - were repeated after a few pages, he said.

“There were at least four to five other candidates who faced the same problem in my centre.

The matter was even reported to the invigilators present there, however, they told us that they could not replace the question papers as others too had same set of questions,” Baheti added. According to one of the instructions in the booklet itself, any candidate who has problem with the question paper can report the matter and get it replaced.

However, in this case the invigilators refused to oblige. To the contrary, they provided wrong information by claiming that all the booklets in the series were the same. Baheti also claimed that none of the XLRI officials were present to report the matter.
A senior official from the admissions department of the XLRI, admitted that there were “five to six question papers with mistakes.”

“So far, we have received only one such complaint. No other compliant has been registered with us. We are inquiring into the matter and a committee will be looking into it,” the official said. The official, however, countered the candidate’s claims about the XLRI officials not being present at the centre. “All the officials from the XLRI are always present at the centres to help students,” he added.
