A 55-year-old man was arrested by Kumbalgodu police on Friday for allegedly raping his daughter, who is now pregnant.

The police identified the accused as Muthuraj, 55, a native of Kumbalgodu and a construction worker. He allegedly raped his 17-year-old daughter over the last two-and-half months. The victim is a first-year PU student, the police said.

The incident came to light on Thursday when the victim complained of stomach pain and started vomiting. She was rushed to a nearby hospital. The doctors, upon examining her, confirmed that she was pregnant. The mother of the girl has lodged a complaint, police said. The victim’s mother works at a garment factory while her brother is an employee at a readymade garment showroom. Her younger brother is a high school student.

The  victim told the police that her father raped her two months ago when she returned home. “ My father was under the influence of alcohol when I reached home around 3 pm. He came home for lunch and tried to molest me. I resisted, but he raped me. Later, he threatened me not to inform the matter to anybody including my mother and brother. He also threatened that he would kill me if I disclosed the incident,” according to her statement to the police.

The victim said her father repeated his heinous acts often which resulted in her pregnancy. “We arrested Muthuraj soon after the complaint was lodged against him. We sent the victim for a medical examination,” a police officer said.
