Rajiv assassin Nalini seeks 30-day parole

Nalini, one of the convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, on Wednesday approached the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the Vellore Prison authorities to grant her parole for 30 days to meet her ailing father.

When the petition came before a division bench, Justice S Rajeswaran and Justice P N Prakash ordered a notice to the ADGP Prisons and superintendent of the Vellore Central Prison for Women and asked them to reply before February 11.

In her petition, filed by her counsel Pugazhenthi, Nalini said she had submitted a plea to the jail superintendent on December 12 last year seeking parole to meet her 90-year-old father Sankaranarayanan at Ambalavanapuram in the Tirunelveli district of the state.

Nalini said she last met her father eight years ago and wants to be with him during his last days. As the concerned jail authorities had not acted on or replied to her representation, she moved the high court seeking direction to the jail superintendent to grant her parole.
