Sindhi College of Commerce celebrated its annual day with a function called ‘Spandan 2013’ at its Hebbal campus recently. Deepak R Narang, the college president, addressed the gathering and spoke about education being the best gift to humanity.

Chief guest KV Ravindranath Tagore, retired Additional Director and Inspector General of Police, then took the dais and told the students that it’s ‘education’ and not ‘degrees’ that makes a man. He stressed the importance of being a person who can empathise and advised them not to be judgmental but to accept everyone as they are.

Principal Prakash B Nayak then presented the annual report of the college. He commended the efforts of lecturers and students who have excelled in various fields. He concluded by wishing everybody a brighter future.

The evening then witnessed the cultural programme, the most awaited part of the day. Students were seen performing rhythmically to different tunes in colourful, vibrant costumes. The crowd too swayed and cheered with the performers.

Karan P Lal, a second-year BCom student, said, “The programme was delightful and the speeches by the chief guests were inspiring. The anchors did an amazing job and kept the crowd entertained throughout. The students were at their best while performing in the dances and fashion show. All in all, it was a well-managed and organised show.”

Adarsha VK, a third-year BCom student, added, “It was an apt way to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the college. The cultural programme began with the anchors imitating a scene from Phata Poster Nikla Hero, which was funny. The dances that followed were extremely entertaining with many of my batchmates and juniors showcasing their talents. Even the fashion show was brilliant to watch.”

Jitesh Tekwani, who performed in the cultural programme, spoke about his experience. “It was an amazing event that was done with a lot of fanfare and enthusiasm. The crowd was full of energy. I gave a solo and group dance performance and everybody cheered for me a lot. It went off much better than I thought.”
