Lokayukta raids on 8 officials yield Rs 7.5-cr 'assets'

The Lokayukta police on Wednesday raided 23 premises of eight government officials in Belgaum, Bellary, Bijapur, Hassan, Dharwad and Dakshina Kannada districts and unearthed “illegal” assets worth Rs 7.50 crore. 

“The bank accounts (of the officials) are being scrutinised. The suspects were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, on Tuesday,” said H N Sathyanarayana Rao, Additional Director General of Police, Lokayukta. 

The officers are as follows: 

Shivanagouda Malagouda Patil, associate professor at SSN Arts and Commerce College, Hukkeri, Belgaum dist: 

Immovable properties — buildings, houses and residential plots — worth Rs 2.6 crore. Also owns a car, two-wheelers, gold and silver jewellery, all worth Rs 53.5 lakh. The percentage of disproportionate assets (DA) is 155.51. 

Dr B Devananad, professor and head of anaesthesia department at VIMS, Bellary: Immovable properties — houses, residential plots and agricultural land — valued at Rs 1.17 crore. Also owns cars, two-wheelers, gold and silver ornaments, savings bonds and bank accounts. The percentage of DA is 161.67. 

K R Prakash, Panchayat Development Officer at Gudekote, Kudligi taluk, Bellary dist: Owns properties worth Rs 43 lakh. The percentage of DA is 204.40. 

Mahantappa Erabasappa, Principal Accounts Officer in Bijapur: 

Owns several houses, land and residential plots worth Rs 67.5 lakh, registered in his mother’s, wife’s and his name. Movable property, including gold and silver jewellery, valued at Rs 15.8 lakh. 

Subhash Chandra N Puttanavar, Junior Engineer in Town Planning Section of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation, Hubli: 

Owns immovable property, including agricultural land, house and residential plots, Rs 95.5 lakh. Movable properties, including cars, two-wheelers, household articles, gold and silver jewellery, valued at about Rs 48.5 lakh. The percentage of DA is 165.61. 

G N Narasimhamurthy, Assistant Controller in Weights and Measures Department, Hassan: Owns immovable assets such as house residential plots in Bangalore, all valued at Rs 97 lakh. Movable properties worth Rs 8.94 lakh. The percentage of DA is 88. 

Omprakash Hegde, first division assistant in Bantwal, Dakshina Kannada dist: 

Immovable property, including land and house, valued at Rs 22.10 lakh. Movable properties, including bank balance, gold and silver jewellery, vehicles and cash, worth Rs 50.24 lakh. The percentage of DA is 184. 

MV Rajan Nambiar, senior assistant at the Karnataka State Food and Civil Supplies and Corporation, Mangalore: 

House worth Rs 25 lakh; three cars, gold and cash, all valued at Rs 31 lakh. The percentage of DA is 323.
