Balancing act

Actress Charmme has come a long way from her debut in Telugu film Nee Thodu Kaavali in 2002. She has experimented with several roles but she’s especially proud about her character as a press reporter in Telugu film Prathigatna, which is slated for release soon.

Charmme says the role not only gave her a chance to stretch her abilities as an actor but she recollects working overtime to gather background information and understand the character.

“I play a journalist and it’s a very strong character. It’s the story of a girl who is gang-raped and the reporter tries to unravel those responsible for the incident. She gets caught in a lot of mess. It is not easy to play a true press reporter,” Charmme tells Metrolife.

She has already begun shooting for her next project Manthra 2 in Telugu, which is a sequel to Manthra. “I play a software professional and it’s a horror film with plenty of edge-of-the-seat moments. It’s an experimental movie and certainly not an attempt at some silly scary scenes. Effort has been made to make the movie appear as real as possible,” explains Charmme.    She says that she rarely gets choosy with her scripts but now she yearns to do a full-fledged romantic film. “It’s a nice feeling to get romantic on screen. It produces a lot of positive energy,” she adds.

In a short span, Charmme has managed to carve a space for herself in the film industry and she owes that to receptive audiences and good scripts. “Yes, all this coupled with loads of luck. There have been people who have appreciated my work and I have also had my share of criticism. It depends on how you handle criticism. I think it has helped me grow both as a person and in my professional life,” she shares.

It’s not just acting, Charmme enjoys dubbing as well. “It’s easy to dub for your character but my biggest challenge has been to dub for other actors. You have to work very hard
