Last Updated 28 November 2009, 16:50 IST

With 251 runs needed to win, Pakistan, who were staring down the barrel after losing their openers cheaply, could not put up enough resistance and were bowled out for 218 in 76 overs. The pace trio of Shane Bond, Chris Martin and Iain O’Brien did most of the damage, picking 8 wickets between them.

Umar Akmal (75) was the only Pakistan batsman to put up any resistance, but without much help from the other batsmen, he was fighting a losing battle.Bond picked up the vital wicket of Umar and then left the rest to his captain Vettori, who mopped up the tail to take New Zealand to a thrilling victory.
