Ponnuswamy (74) of Gopinatham in Kollegal taluk in Chamarajanagar district had been arrested along with Veerappan’s wife Muthulakshmi under Terrorists And Disruptive Activities Act (TADA) by the police last year, on November 27. He had been booked under the charges of storming Ramapura police station in 1992, besides storing illegal weapons.
He was lodged at Chamarajanagar jail since then. Two days ago, Ponnuswamy complained of tooth ache. He had been shifted to Central Prisons of Mysore for treatment. However, Ponnuswamy complained of chest pain around 1.30 am. The jail authorities made all arrangements to shift him to K R Hospital, but to no avail.
Meanwhile, former Hanur MLA Parimala Nagappa, who visited the mortuary accused the police of falsely implicating Ponnuswamy.
