CB Bhandari Jain College recently celebrated its annual day with great pomp and show. Not only was it a day of fun for the current students and teachers of the college but also members of the alumni, who decided to pay a visit to their alma mater on the occasion.

The programme started with an exhilarating rendition of ‘Naada Geethe’ by the student choir, which was followed by a serious of vibrant dances and songs.

Roopa Iyer, a young dancer and film director based out of the City, was the chief guest of the day’s function. Roopa was full of praises for their melodious orchestra and said, “The cultural programme was a reflection of the overall importance that the college gives to Kannada as a language and culture in general. I had a lovely time here.” Champalal Bhandari, secretary of Shree Mahaveer Jain Shikshan Sangha, delivered the welcome speech and inspired the students to work hard and endure all kinds of difficulties to reach their goals.

Other management members were also present on the occasion. Following the speeches, principal Asha Ganesh presented the annual report of the academic year 2013-14.

It was a day of gaiety, marked by some unique folk dances in Marathi and Kannada, which showcased the latest style divas of Bollywood and an eye-catching fashion show that depicted Indo-western garments. A hilarious Kannada skit on the generation gap prevalent today was also performed, which left the audience in splits.

The show, which covered various forms of entertainment, was much appreciated by parents and students alike. Vaishnavi BS, a student, said, “The North Indian girls enacting their roles in flawless Kannada was what made the skit truly unforgettable for me. It was an enjoyable day and I’m glad my friends and family were present.”

“What made me proud of this college was the fantastic choreography of the dances and the direction of the skit, both of which were completely done by the students.

Their efforts really paid off and it was an entertaining affair,” shared Heena Jain, an alumnus of the college.  Vice principal Veena R added, “Our cute versions of Kareena, Deepika and Priyanka could surely give the originals a tough fight!”
