Arjun completes grand double

Karnataka’s Arjun Sriram completed a grand double in the boys’ category in the KTPPA-AITA under-12 championship series tennis tournament at the Tennis Advantage courts here on Tuesday.

The second-seeded player posted a 6-3, 6-3 win over State-mate PM Prasanna in the singles final before partnering Sandesh K to claim the double title with a facile 6-4, 6-4 win over Kurva Gaurav and Varun Kumar.

In the singles semifinals, Arjun got the better of Nikhil Niranjan of Karnataka 6-0, 6-3 and Prasanna registered a hard-fought 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 10-7 victory against Kurva Gaurav of Andhra Pradesh.

Kinesis Academy’s Chandrika Joshi was, however, the surprise package on the day as the fifth-seeded youngster punched above her weight to topple top-seeded Shaikh Mubashir Anjum of Andhra Pradesh 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) in the girls’ singles final. 

Anjum had something to smile about later in the day as she teamed up with Parvvi Patil to bag the doubles title with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Shaikh Mushrat Anjum and Ananya Reddy.

Results (all finals): Boys, Singles: Arjun Sriram (Kar) bt PM Prasanna (Kar) 6-3, 6-3. (Semifinals): Prasanna bt Kurva Guarav (AP) 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 10-7; Arjun bt Nikhil Niranjan (Kar) 6-0, 6-3.

Doubles: Arjun Sriram/ Sandesh K bt Kurva Gaurav/ Varun Kumar 6-4, 6-4.
Girls, Singles: Chandrika Joshi (Kar) bt Shaikh Mubashir Anjum (AP) 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). (Semifinals): Chandrika bt Mushrat Anjum (AP) 6-2, 6-2; Mubashir bt Reshma Maruri (Kar) 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.

Doubles: Shaikh Mubashir Anjum/ Parvvi Patil bt Shaikh Mushrat Anjum/ Ananya Reddy 6-2, 6-0.
