'Slaughter in open place not allowed'

Last Updated 28 November 2009, 18:45 IST

The NGO claimed that under the existing laws the animals could be killed only in slaughter houses and not in open spaces. “In 2008, the High Court had directed all DCs and SPs to strictly enforce provisions contained in the Karnataka Prevention of Animal Sacrifices Act 1959 and KPAS rules 1963 to prevent illegal sacrifices, but nothing seem to have been followed,” lamented AKPDS activist Sunil.

Vasumathi Krishnasami, a retired teacher living in Shivajinagar area, also did not approve of the sacrifice outside the houses. Killing must be inside slaughter houses, but here in every lane, animals were sacrificed, she added.

Sunil said that the organisation’s efforts to save 65 animals from being sent to unauthorised slaughter houses in Vidyaranyapura went in vain as there were protests from some people.
