Come winter and the concern to take care of the facial skin gains top priority. Though the skin gets nourished through various means, the lips are often forgotten and thus the glow on the face remains incomplete.

As the winter recedes and skin manages to win the battle with dryness, it is the lips that often remain dry making one wonder the best possible way to keep them soft and smooth.

The changing weather is harsh on the skin and one almost forgets the lips which need to be “Moisturised with lip balm that helps to repair the dry and chapped lips. A lip balm must be used before stepping out of the house. A powerful moisturiser that encourages cellular renewal and repairs the Hydrolipidic film of the skin is the perfect solution for people with extremely dry and chapped lips,” advises Debabani Guha, trainer at L’Occitane.

A home remedy to cure chapped lips would be to use dairy products like “Malai overnight to soothe the skin of lips. This would lead to healthier, naturally pink lips. Also, intake of Vitamin E is very important for us to maintain healthy lips,” informs Aakriti Kochar, beauty and make-up expert at Oriflame India.

The more important question, however, is the frequency at which a lip balm can be applied. While some experts suggest use of waterproof
lip balms which work like a film on the lips, others also emphasise that a lip balm can usually be applied in every twohours for smooth, soft lips.

While selecting a lip balm you those precious and sensitive lips, one must keep in mind to prefer the one’s which have “Emollients like coco butter and shea butter that make lips healthy and beautiful.

Another important aspect for buying a lip balm in spring summer is the addition of SPF. High SPF content will lead to protection from the harmful UVA and UVB Rays and will prevent discolouration,” adds Aakriti.

Skin expert warn against manual peeling of the dead skin – a bad habit among
many. “It can damage the lips which can start bleeding as well. If there are dead cell
visible on lips, moisturise them heavily so that the dead skin becomes soft and then remove it with the help of a lip scrub or a toothbrush,”
advises Debabani.

On a regular basis, a basic regimen to take care of lips can include scrubbing with the help of an exfoliating gel which has round granules which delicately remove the dead skin and instantly hydrates the lip area. It is also important to moisturise lips before sleeping. The same can be done with the help of an organic shea butter which can also be applied as a mask for five minutes and then gently wiped with a soft wet tissue for rosy lips within dimple cheeks!
