Last Updated 06 February 2014, 18:46 IST

A transit centre-cum-shelter home, Vatsalya Bhavan, was inaugurated by Gurneet Tej, Director, Department of Women and Child Development, in the City on Thursday.

The home has been established to rehabilitate vulnerable girl children and to cater for their immediate and long-term needs. The home, started by Bosco, is run with donations and is exclusively for needy girlchildren.

Speaking on the occasion, Tej said: “The activities of the centre will comprise several responsibilities. It will receive children from vulnerable pockets in the City and will take care of their health, education family unification, advocacy, referral services, job placement, etc.
The above services will be provided on a case-to-case basis, keeping in mind the best interests of the child.
