Sandeep strikes gold

Haryana’s Sandeep Kumar won the gold medal in the men’s 50km walk at the National Race Walking Championships on Sunday.

Sandeep timed 4:08:54s while Uttarakhand’s Manish Singh Rawat (4:09:38s) and Surinder Singh of Punjab (4:14:14s) clinched the silver and bronze respectively.
“I am looking for a better performance during the IAAF Race Walking World Cup at Taicang, China,” Sandeep told reporters after his triumph.

Results: Men: 50 km walk: Sandeep Kumar (Haryana) 4:08:54, 1; Manish Rawat (Uttarakhand) 4:09:38, 2; Surinder Singh (Punjab) 4:14:14, 3.  Junior boys: 10 km walk: Mahendra Singh (Punjab) 45:01, 1; Shailesh Kumar 46:34, 2; Manjit Singh 47:46, 3.
Junior girls: 10 km walk: KT Neena (Kerala) 51:27, 1; Priyanka 52:03, 2; AM Binsy (Kerala) 54:56, 3.
