'Brains 'n' Beats'

Deccan Herald is organising ‘Brains ‘n’ Beats’, the inter-collegiate quiz, debate and group dance competition on February 20 and 21 at Oxford College of Science and Arts, HSR Layout.

The quiz competition will be on February 20 and the rules and regulations are:
n The competition is open to students of all colleges, all courses (PU, UG and PG).
n A college can send a maximum of four teams. A team comprises two students.
However, in case two or three teams from the same college clear the prelims, only the top scoring team of the same college will qualify for the finals.

n The quiz master's decision is final.

n Many of the questions will be based on news carried in Deccan Herald during the fortnight preceding the event.

The debate competition will also be held on February 20. The rules and regulations are:

n The competition is open to students of all colleges, all courses (PU, UG and PG).
n A college can send a maximum of six students.

n Essay writing will be conducted as a part of the preliminary round to choose 20 finalists.

n Twenty finalists will speak for/against the topic based on a draw; five minutes of preparation time will be allotted to the finalists.

n Each finalist will get a minimum of 2.5 minutes and a maximum of three minutes exceeding which will lead to disqualification. The judges decision will be final.
The group dance competition will be held on February 21. The rules and regulations are:

n The competition is open to students of all colleges, all courses (PU, UG and PG).
n It will be held in two categories — semi-classical (mythology, folk, theme-based dances etc) and modern dance.

n Each college can send one team per category; each team can have a maximum of six participants and a minimum of three.

n The music for the performance can be recorded and a brought on a CD/ pen drive; to avoid wastage of time, the track on the CD/pen drive should be ready to play.
n Each team is allowed four minutes plus one minute as grace time.

Exceeding five minutes will attract disqualification.

n The performers must be modestly dressed. The songs and the movements must at all times be decent and non provocative.

n Vulgarity in dress, lyrics or dance movements will lead to disqualification; use of props is allowed.

But dangerous props and props which litter/ dirty the stage (such as rangoli powder, glitter, sand etc) are not permitted.

A lot of attractive prizes are up for grabs. Enthusiastic cheering teams will also
receive attractive prizes. (A college can send a maximumof 30 students for
cheering).

There is no entry fee. You can register through email: dhcolleges@deccanherald.co.in by February 18.

   Participants should bring their college ID cards.

The creative partner is Arena Animation, the nutrition partner is Paramount Nutritions, the citizenship awareness partner is Volunteer for a Better India and the venue partner is Oxford College, HSR
Layout.
