Dismal depth of depravity

Kwatle

Kannada (A)  *

Cast: Partha, Yagna Shetty

Director: JCK

Ducking under the pseudonym of JCK for creditline, director J Chandrakala has foisted one of the most depraved movies possible.

That censors thought it apt for theatres begs the question whether the board is really upto it task in clearing a film with no iota of cinematic credentials or merit. Set in seamy underbelly of a slum infesting City’s byzantine lanes, Kwatle is about the eponymous character, seedy slumdog who is a thief to the core, bestowed with benign heart.

Besotted to him is ragpicker chit of chick Nagi who brooks no ill-word against her beau. Though the uncouth cares two hoots about her affections, the smitten damsel hopes her saner counsel will reform the rowdy, rascally Kwatle.

Knit along this slumside romance is mysterious deaths committed by ravenous youths high on drugs who ravish young girls and kill them for wanton sport. How our Kwatle aka Ashoka becomes willing tool in their diabolic deeds leading to Nagi confronting him forms the fulcrum of Kwatle which should have been confined to cans and never seen the light of celluloid canvas. God forbid such films are ever encouraged again.
