All India Congress Committee vice president Rahul Gandhi has accused the BJP of adopting “double standard” on corruption-related issues.

Speaking at the Bharat Nirman Rally here on Saturday, Rahul said that the  BJP leaders had been raking up the issue of corruption across the country, all the while overlooking the large-scale irregularities in the states ruled by their party.

“ One of the BJP chief ministers of Karnataka had to go to jail and 16 ministers had to quit the Cabinet.

The person who went to jail has now been brought back into the party fold,” Rahul said, without taking the name of B S Yeddyurappa. Rahul said there was corruption in the other states ruled by BJP,  but the party was seeing the scourge only in the states where it is not in power. The rally was organised as part of the Congress’ campaign for the Lok Sabha elections.

Predicting that the Congress would form the government at the Centre, Rahul declared that the party would strive for the welfare of poor and weaker section of society.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, AICC General Secretary and Karnataka in charge Digvijay Singh, Union Railway Minister Mallikarjun Kharge and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President G Parameshwara were present.
