Kristu Jayanti College bagged the overall championship award at the Bangalore University Youth Festival for the seventh consecutive year. The college has a strong music and dance teams. The college recently organised two events — NrityaDarpan, an evening of dance and WoodRock, a music concert on campus.

A variety of dance forms from classical, folk dances to western crew battle and a special LED performance, were showcased. The event saw the participation of more than 80 students, each doing something different. One saw the students select their own songs and choreograph the dance as well. They enjoyed the challenge and were thrilled that they got an opportunity to showcase their talents. Gayathri T, a solo dancer said, “It was truly an inspirational programmes. Events like this keep the art alive and give a platform to the talented people.”

Soumya Mathew, who participated in the eastern dance category, said, “After a long time, dancing was such an amazing feeling. However, I am sad that this is my last year in college and therefore, my last performance.”

The staff of the college had been working overtime to see that the event went off hassle-free. The staff not only guided the students but did their bit by performing at the event. Shruti T, a staff coordinator, said, “The college has created an opportunity for the students to express their inner self through dance. The show was received well and that proved our efforts had paid off.”

The event served as a perfect setting prior to ‘Nrityanjal’, the annual dance programme, scheduled to be held on February 22.

Another interesting event that the college hosted for the first time was ‘Woodrock’, a set of electrifying and breathless music. The event began with pieces sung by the college choir. The performances by the choir were interspersed with the choir master performing a few pieces on the guitar. One got to hear a variety of genre from blues, jazz to contemporary.
