GU honorary doctorate for Dravid, 2 ministers

Eminent cricketer and former India captain Rahul Dravid, Union Minster of State K H Muniyappa and Minister for Minority Welfare Qamarul Islam are among the 12 selected by Gulbarga University for honorary doctorate.

Vice Chancellor E T Puttaiah said here on Wednesday that the doctorates will be conferred at the 32nd convocation of the varsity to be held on February 20. Principal Scientific Advisor to the Union government and chairperson of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet, R Chidambaram, will deliver the convocation address.

The others selected for the honorary doctorates are: Brahmakumari Didi Ratan Mohini, Mount Abu; Sri Channaveera Shivacharya, Harkud, Bidar; Dalit activist Shivaram Mogha, Gulbarga; Shivanand Swami of Sonna, Gulbarga; PWD contractor Dhareppa Uppar, Bangalore; Mohan Manghanani of New Horizon Education Society, Bangalore; Rajashekhar Hatagundi, editor of Kannada weekly Agni, Bangalore; businessman Krishnaji Kulkarni of Gulbarga, and Sharad Rampure of Hyderabad Karnataka Education Society, Gulbarga.
