Jackets for all seasons

Last Updated 20 February 2014, 14:14 IST

Taking a cue from the designers who presented their spring/summer collection at the Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week last year, summer jackets are expected to trigger a haute new trend. As summer doesn’t just mean wearing T-shirts, sleeveless tops or vest, it makes for some funky fashion sense to introduce lightweight jacket options that look good and are seasonally suitable.

Pair an oversized army jacket with soft, feminine floral dress. Feel free to experiment with a cool khaki or bold black jacket. Roll the sleeves and pile on some girly gold bracelets and neckpiece to balance your look.  A boyish leather jacket looks trendy in every climate and for every occasion. To beat the heat go for lightweight leather jacket that can add layer to your outfit without adding too much bulk. Black can be an obvious choice but go for bright coloured jackets too. Another option can be a jean/denim jacket. Pair it with shorts or skirts, tees and tanks.

You can even grab a cotton blazer that is longer and lighter. It should be narrower at the shoulder and in light fabric. Push the sleeves up and steer away from anything with a tapered waist or fancy fabric. If you are feeling adventurous team up that palazzo with a denim jacket for the uber cool look!

But one thing that you must bear in mind is your body shape and form while choosing jackets. If you are buxom, choose single- breasted slim cut jackets. A denim-style can both be dressy and casual.

You can even opt for a polka dot print jacket that won’t overwhelm.

If you are slim and tall then look for styles that clinch at the waist and give the illusion of an hourglass figure. Also go for fitted jackets for shape. A cropped cut and bright
colour make your top look fuller. Lacy and ladylike jackets are perfect for the office. Even belted styles give a
slim-waist appeal.
If you are pear-shaped, flared jackets that nip at the waist show off curvy shapes and take the focus off the hips. A little volume or padding at the shoulders also makes the hips look smaller. You can also go for long jackets with strong shoulders. Pin stripes are fun and super lengthening. A long blazer skims over hips. Go, have fun experimenting with jackets this summer!
