The incident seems to have been taken straight out of a Bollywood love story with a tragic end.

Unable to bear restrictions imposed on them by their families, two lovers allegedly shot each other in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district, about 500 kilometres from here.
Police sources here said while the youth died on the spot, the girl succumbed to her injuries on way to the hospital.

Sources said the man from Kamalpur village was in a love affair with a girl of the same village for the last few years.

Although both belonged to the same community, their families had refused to give their consent to the wedding. As a resul, the couple was under tension, sources added.

The situation came to a head when the girl’s family imposed restrictions on her movement and asked her to sever all relations with the youth. The lovers then decided to commit suicide.

On Wednesday, the girl went to her lover’s home, who was alone there at that time.
Police said the two shot each other after locking themselves in a room. A neighbour, who rushed there on hearing the gunshots, found them lying in a pool of blood. He then informed others.

The youth died on the spot while the girl was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead. Two country-made pistols were recovered from the scene.

No charges have been pressed by the two families, police said, adding a case of suicide was registered and they were investigating the matter. The two families have given in writing that they did not want any action in the matter, police said.
