Last Updated 21 February 2014, 20:03 IST

UIDAI Chairman Nandan Nilekani on Friday said he will resign by March-end to contest the Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket.

Nilekani, who is likely to contest from the Bangalore South constituency, did not specify when he would join the Congress. When asked about his constituency, Nilekani said: “Subject to getting the ticket from Bangalore South.”

Speaking to reporters here, Nilekani said he has been meeting people in Bangalore. Issues like public transport, water supply and education would be some of his focus areas. “There are issues like how to improve water supply. Education is a big challenge for children and jobs also,” he said.

On a question whether he was taking a big risk by contesting elections, Nilekani, in a lighter vein, said: “In any case, I do not plan to lose. In the worst case, I may lose, but that risk taking is part of life. “The reason I chose political path (was because) a lot of changes are required in the system.”
