'Parathas' on a platter...

Last Updated 21 February 2014, 13:23 IST

Tasty on the palate and reasonable on the wallet. These two phrases best describe ‘Rishi’s Paratha Plaza — The Original Recipe’ located in Sanjaynagar. A visit to the eatery ensures you a meal of authentic parathas, lassi, gulab jamun and rasagulla. Its proprietors, Rishi and Babita Pathni, are warm and hospitable.

The place offers more than 50 varieties of parathas with the most popular ones being pizza paratha, 3M (methi, mattar and malai) paratha and their latest addition — OMG (onion, methi and garlic) paratha. The steaming hot parathas are served right from the stove to the plate, along with a generous serving of thick curd and pickle.

“Each recipe is tried and tested several times before being introduced on the menu,” says the couple. At the moment, they are working on introducing noodles paratha, sprout paratha, and a paratha made of various attas.

The team of 10 begins preparing the dough at 7 am and starts the service around 10 am. “When we started off, we only used to offer breakfast. But now, we also give lunch and dinner because parathas are difficult to have for breakfast,” explains Rishi.

So what makes their parathas stand out? “All the masalas are prepared at home. The recipes have been passed down. At the same time, I’ve also experimented and brought in new varieties,” he points out, adding, “The best compliment we have received is that our parathas are better than those available in Delhi.”

Earlier, they would customise the parathas depending on the request of the customers. But now, Rishi says it’s quite a challenge to do so because of the bustling crowd. “We can only reduce the levels of salt and oil now. We can’t do a mix and match anymore,” he says.

And it’s not just parathas that the eatery serves. “We also offer strawberry and blueberry flavoured lassis. And the gulab jamun is another one of our signature dishes for which we use a secret recipe,” he says, adding, “The prices are reasonable and that’s what helps us garner a large crowd including professionals and families.”

Praveen, an IT professional who visits the place often, says, “The parathas are soft and the flavours are typically North Indian. The dishes here have a home-made taste. This place is always bustling with customers.” Shiresh, another regular, points out that it is one of the best places to get parathas around the area.

“The items are also reasonably priced. I have been coming here for a couple of years now,” notes Shiresh. Rishi’s Paratha Plaza is located on Sanjaynagar Main Road. For details, call 9632244030.
