Last Updated 21 February 2014, 20:08 IST

The government on Friday clarified that two separate LPG connections in the same address will be allowed in case the kitchens are separate. The government is also thinking of a new scheme to ensure the LPG connections reach people, especially those below poverty line.

“If there are two separate LPG connections in the same address, it would be allowed if there are separate kitchens or separate households. A declaration has to be made by the consumer,” Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily said in the Lok Sabha during Question Hour.“Every year an average of 1 crore new LPG connections are given, mostly in rural areas.

The government will think of a new scheme to ensure that LPG connections reach people, especially to those below poverty line at the earliest.  To a query on Know Your Customer (KYC) norms for LPG connections, the minister said the government has already issued clarifications regarding multiple connections and would liberally look into the matter if required. On the DBT scheme, the minister said the Cabinet has decided to delink Aadhaar account from disbursal of subsidised LPG cylinders.
