CMC plans to make Udupi pollution free

Preparations on for platinum jubilee celebrations next year

Speaking to the media here on Monday, CMC President Dinaker Shetty informed that the CMC has opted for an unique mode of solid waste management at the door steps. Two separate waste buckets for solid and organic wastes will be distributed freely to about 150 houses on an experimental basis. Organic waste will be collected daily whereas the solid waste will be collected once in a week. About 8 SHGs have already been assigned with the job of collecting the wastes from the houses. Arrangements for computerised bill acceptance have been made for the public to pay their water bills. They can pay their bills at Syndicate Bank branches of Parkala, KMC Manipal, Manipal Main, Kunjibettu, Car Street, Founders Branch, Brahmagiri Branch, New Market Yard, Malpe, Udyavara and Catholic Centre Branch, he added.

Road widening

Proposals have been designed under Chief Ministers Small and Medium Development Programme for widening of roads in the CMC limit. Accordingly, the CMC has been sanctioned with Rs 15 crore for the year 2009-10 and an additional Rs 15 crore for the year 2010-11, of which Rs 16 crore has been earmarked for acquisition process under road widening programme. Rs 5 crore for the road construction works, Rs 3 crore for the sports stadium at Beedinagudde, Rs 2 crore for renovation of Town hall and Rs 1 crore for overhead tank construction in Manipal. A blue print for the developmental programmes under this provision has been sent to the state government for its approval. Kanakadasa street, Badagupate and Tenkapete streets will be taken up under road widening programme. Stretches at Kalsanka-Rajangana junctions and Ideal-Woodlands junctions will be taken up for up gradation. The roads will be widened up to 10 feet on either side, he said.

About Rs 52 lakh has been earmarked for the concretiing works. All the main connecting roads will be revamped before the forthcoming Paryaya which is scheduled on January 18, he added. CMC Vice President Indira Shekar, Commissioner Gokuldas, Syndicate Bank Regional Manager Vasanth Nayak, Chief Manager A G Pai and others were present.
